Reading the signals

Usage is one part of the infrastructure story.

01 / Coverage

Observed traffic

Direct provider APIs, private deployments, and traffic outside OpenRouter are outside this view. Application entries are participating tools, rather than a ranking of enterprise customers.

02 / Measurement

Volume and growth

Model totals combine prompt and completion tokens. Growth compares observed token totals with the preceding week and is shown only when both weeks have complete model observations. A missing change remains unavailable. Tokenizers and caching differ, so volume cannot reliably be converted into spend or compute demand.

03 / Attribution

Keep the layers distinct

A model developer is different from its hosting cloud or the application using it. Developer totals here sum the listed models only. The snapshot does not establish AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or OCI consumption.

Snapshot methodology and next steps

Snapshot acquisition: OpenRouter Data API. Model totals sum the latest seven complete UTC days, using models that appear in the source’s daily top 50. A model outside that daily sample has unknown usage for that day; its seven-day sum can therefore be partial. Application windows cover one, seven, and thirty complete days. Developer totals cover these observed model rows and exclude the source’s aggregated other-model bucket. Application and model totals overlap and must not be added together.

This version has no automatic refresh. The page displays the last successfully refreshed OpenRouter API snapshot. Sixty daily platform buckets are retained in the downloadable data, including the source’s other-model bucket. Historical charts are a next step. Snapshot figures may be revised by the source.
